Brenda Ann Spencer was only 15 years old. Her parents had separated, a very difficult separation for her. Brenda decided to stay with her father. They lived in abject poverty; her father was an alcoholic, and they barely had a mattress to sleep on.
Brenda had been very introverted all her life; she didn’t like going out among people, and her teachers noticed her learning difficulties.
In 1979, Brenda took her father’s rifle and pointed it out of the window of her school. She then began shooting at everyone she saw, killing the principal and a security guard. Nine other people, including fellow students, were injured.
The authorities were alerted and went to Brenda’s house. They spent six long hours trying to get her to leave the house until they finally offered her a burger from Burger King.

Today she is 53 years old and is still in prison, where she is trying to be released on parole, but all attempts have been in vain; the judge ruled that Brenda still poses a danger to herself and others.
