What TV shows replaced an established character and the result actually improved the show? There are a million examples of shows replacing a character and then the show quickly going downhill. What shows have actually improved as a result?
Newhart staring Bob Newhart as an innkeeper/writer/TV host.
In it’s first season the maid was Leslie.
She was perfect, bland, and boring.
By the end of the first season she was replaced with Stephanie,
She was a spoiled heiress who hated to actually do any work.
There was also Kirk.
He was a compulsive liar who ran the nearby Minuteman Cafe. He was annoying. After two seasons he was replaced with three actors:
Larry, his brother Daryl and his other brother Daryl. They’d actually been on occasionally as recurring characters beginning with the second episode but the became regulars in the 3rd season after buying the Minuteman Cafe.
The show was ok the first couple of seasons but it really took off after getting rid of Kirk.
