IMO the most humiliating demonstration was made by Vlad III(1431–1476), Prince of Wallachia aka Vlad Dracula aka Vlad the Impaler to the invading Ottoman Empire.
This method of execution is called Impaling, it was Vlad’s favorite method of killing, and that’s why he was nick named Vlad the Impaler, let me tell you how impaling works : The main purpose of the impaling was the victim not to die instantly, but to suffer horrible tortures as long as possible! The man impaled died slowly after 1-2 days because of the terrible pains suffered, by hungry, thirsty and even by the raven’s attacks!
Vlad started a strong campaign against the thieves and criminals who terrorized Walachia in that age, most of the delinquents were punished by impaling, his method was so effective that one day he has ordered to be put a golden cup to a fountain at a crossroad in Targoviste town (the capital of Walachia). Every thirsty man could drink water from it, but had to put it back, after that. Nobody ever dared to steal it, so that the cup remained in the same place for years, even long after Vlad Dracula’s death in December 1476!
Vlad didn’t really impale Turks, he impaled his own country’s thieves and murderers, so why I’m I saying he humiliated the Ottoman Empire? Because the invading Ottoman army with 10 times more soldiers than the entire population of Walachia were scared sh**less once they saw this forest of 1000 Impaled men, some still agonizing others dead with Crows eating human sashimi, the Ottoman general was like I came, I saw, I’m outta here.
