My ex-spouse
was quite thin.
Yes, she was a runner. And she ate sort of OK, but it didn’t explain much.
I had a sneaking suspicion that something was up.
My other evidence? Frequent bathroom trips, awful noises coming from there, immediate leaving without handwashing or looking like there was even time to pull up pants, and what appeared to be, usually, pieces of lettuce just floating around in the bowl.
And with a little bit of investigation, I discovered she was vomiting. Not just a little bit. She was like a wood chipper. She could eat an entire giant bag of food, with multiple quick bathroom trips, constantly disposing of the waste she was churning out.
My heart goes out to all of those out there with eating disorders.
Please get the help you need. Her behavior was physically hard to stomach for me. Her nasty inability to cover her tracks and make those of us around have to experience everything was ultra painful. But the fact that she didn’t recognize that what she was doing was problematic, and instead let it destroy her life and the lives of all of those around her, was downright tragic.
