What is one seemingly insignificant thing that you went to the doctor for that turned out to be important?

Not me, but my boyfriend. He had a stomach ache and felt bad. He vomited several times and lay down. He slept for about an hour and woke up worse. He decided to go to the hospital. He was thinking about an ulcer or something, and he was prescribed treatment and sent home. He was given a CT scan and blood tests. It turned out that he suffered from acute pancreatitis. He remained in a coma for 43 days. He was on life support. Doctors said he was going to die.

So they put two abdominal drains on him and performed a tracheotomy (we made an opening in his throat with a tube so that the machine could help him breathe). He woke up not knowing what had happened. He went to the emergency room on September 30 and woke up in intensive care on November 12. He remained hospitalized in another department until November 20. He didn’t die, but he was very close. He is currently recovering at home, still has abdominal drains and is an insulin-dependent diabetic. He has to take enzymes to help him digest. Everyone said he wouldn’t make it, but I didn’t abandon him and I was with him in the hospital every day, all day. He says that without me he wouldn’t have survived. I am so grateful to have him at home.
