Ignore the spinning top. Focus on the children.
Ask yourself, how long a time period from when Cobb became a fugitive and last saw his children to when he saw them again at the end of this movie ?
I’m guessing a good 18 months. At least.
- The children have not grown
- The children are wearing the same clothes in every dream sequence
- The children are performing the same action (looks like hunting worms in the garden)
Throughout the movie we are convinced of Cobb manifesting his past relationships into the dream world. He manifests his kids inside of one of the higher levels (the hotel) and the children have not aged, they are wearing the same clothes and are performing the same motor function that Cobb has imprinted on his mind from the last time that he saw them in the real world at least a year and a half prior.
Kids grow really fast.
Cobb is broken and dreaming forever in Limbo at the end of Inception.
