I want to warn you all to refrain from making your high-quality photos available on social media. Deepfake technology is creepy.
(The clips are blurred to prevent Quora from collapsing the answer)
Above is a clip of a woman seen walking and shaking her breasts. On that video, someone deepfaked actress Rashmika Mandanna’s face.
When I saw the deepfake version, I was taken aback by how real it looked. I thought why would Rashmika wear that and behave like that in front of a camera.
Then I saw the source clip posted under the deepfake clip.
Some people question “why not punish those who do this instead of telling women to not post photos?”
We suggest women that because we care a lot about them. At many times, women are more vulnerable to bad elements.
You can say all morally correct things you like. But internet is a deep hole where things go and remain. You may get someone punished for posting your deepfake video, but that video will remain online.
Young people need to be warned against this menace. Similar apps to Tiktok, Insta reels, Shorts, etc are now easily accessible to our underage girls and boys. They are putting their faces on camera for everyone outside to see it. Anything can be downloaded and saved.
People have committed suicides due to such happenings. We are living in a dangerous tech world.
Update: This story has spread like wildfire and Rashmika Mandanna herself expressed sadness and fear over it.
