Was there a way to heal Anakin Skywalker without putting him into the Darth Vader suit?

Sure there was. It was to submerge him in a circulated tank of bacta.

While going for a perpetual soak is highly beneficial, it doesn’t exactly make for a menacing, effective warlord doing his emperor’s bidding.

Vader’s suit actually performs two functions. The first is to obviously keep him alive by assisting in his breathing and to keep his skin from oxidizing and giving up what precious moisture it has left. Anakin’s broken body is rather susceptible to infection due to the third-degree burns he received. The suit also protects the mechanical limbs, keeping them from being fouled.

The second function is quite insidious. The suit, having been designed by Darth Sidious (how fitting), actually inflicts pain, thereby keeping Vader irritated and angry, and reminding Anakin he is dependent upon his master.

The suit isn’t exactly healing Vader, it’s just keeping him teetering on edge.
