Screams from the woods broke the quiet, and three lifeguards who had just started their shift didn’t hesitate.
They ran toward the noise, pushing through trees until they reached a fast, dangerous river. Eighteen-year-old Kaden Ross saw a woman struggling in the water and pulled her to safety — but then she gasped, “My boy’s under there.”
With help from another man, Kaden saw the child’s small feet under the water. They pulled him out — limp and not breathing. Kaden gave two rescue breaths and started CPR until water came out of the boy’s mouth — the first sign he was alive.
While his teammates comforted the scared mother, Kaden kept working until emergency crews arrived.
Both mother and son survived — all because three lifeguards heard the screams and ran toward them.
