During World War II, a soldier got separated from his group while fighting on an island.
The battle had been rough, and with all the smoke and gunfire, he lost track of his fellow soldiers.
Alone in the jungle, he heard enemy soldiers getting closer.
Looking for a place to hide, he climbed up a ridge and found a few small caves in the rocks.
He quickly crawled into one of them.
For the moment, he was safe. But he knew the enemy would soon come up the ridge, check the caves, and find him.
He began to pray, “Lord, please save me. I love you and trust you no matter what happens. Amen.”
After praying, he lay still, listening as the enemy came closer.
He thought, “I guess God isn’t going to help me this time.”
Just then, he saw a spider begin spinning a web at the front of the cave.
He smiled a little and thought, “I need a wall to protect me, and God sends me a spider web. God sure has a funny way of doing things.”
As the enemy soldiers got nearer, he watched them search one cave after another.
When they reached his cave, he braced himself for the worst.
But then he heard one of the soldiers say,
“Don’t bother checking this one — if anyone had gone inside, the spider web would be torn.”
To his surprise, they glanced at the cave and moved on.
He realized the spider’s web made it look like no one had entered the cave for a long time.
He whispered, “Lord, forgive me. I didn’t see that even a spider’s web, in your hands, can be stronger than a wall of bricks.”
God can use the smallest things to do the biggest miracles.
He will protect you if you trust Him.
