Last night, we went to Olive

Last night, we went to Olive Garden for dinner. My mom, who is 79 years old, chose to sit at the corner of the table where she felt more comfortable and had enough room in case she needed to get up.

When our food arrived, I was talking to my 15-year-old child who was sitting across from me. After a moment, I turned to check on my mom—and to my surprise, I saw our server, Susie, standing beside her and cutting my mom’s steak.

I was stunned. I immediately thanked her, and she gently said, “No problem, I don’t mind. I have grandparents, and I know how it is sometimes.” Her kindness touched me deeply.

She kept checking on my mom: “Is this okay? Let me cut this into smaller pieces for you.” She spent about three full minutes carefully cutting the meat into small, easy-to-eat pieces. My mom kept smiling at me, and I smiled back, overwhelmed with gratitude.

I made sure to tell the manager what Susie had done. I thanked him for having such a caring, compassionate person on their team—because you simply can’t teach that kind of heart. I told him that Susie truly deserved to be recognized for going above and beyond, something we don’t often see these days.

Susie absolutely deserves that recognition.
