Kurt Russell has shared in several interviews how he and his longtime partner, Goldie Hawn, once helped Princess Diana and her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, escape the constant pressure of the paparazzi.
Kurt first met Diana at the premiere of his film Backdraft. During their conversation, Diana opened up to him about the challenges of living in the public eye. She told him how exhausting it was to deal with photographers everywhere she went, and how difficult it had become to find even a moment of privacy.
Kurt sympathized with her and offered a simple but heartfelt suggestion:
“Why don’t you come to our ranch? We have a long driveway, and the paparazzi can’t easily get in. Maybe you’d like to stay there sometime.”
Diana appreciated the kindness, and although nothing happened immediately, the conversation stayed with her.
About a year later, Goldie received a call from her friend Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. Sarah asked if it might be possible for Diana and her sons—William and Harry—to stay at the ranch for a short break, away from the constant attention of the press.
Goldie immediately agreed.
For the next ten days, Princess Diana and her boys were able to relax in complete peace. Away from cameras and crowds, they enjoyed a rare period of privacy—something Diana deeply valued. According to Kurt and Goldie, the family had a wonderful time simply being together, free from the pressure of public life.
This gesture became a meaningful memory for all involved, showing how a small act of kindness offered Diana and her sons a much-needed escape from the spotlight.
