Kate Murray (photographer) This is a photo of a woman she asked to photograph as she gave birth to her first child. But then something tragic happened: halfway through her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She had to have a breast removed and undergo chemotherapy—all while carrying her child.
At 36 weeks, doctors induced labor so they could treat her cancer and so she could see her son grow up. When the newborn latched onto Kate’s single breast, the emotion in the room was overwhelming.
