He was a bad man when he was free (having killed 17 innocent men and feasted on their bodies, and then cooked and ate some of their meat), but inside he was a dream.
He was polite, quiet, even became religious (not necessarily a good sign), helpful and kind. And to be honest: that’s how Jeffrey actually was if the entity in him was asleep. But Jeffrey also hated himself for the atrocity that he was, and the damage that he did.
And one day, another inmate called Christopher Carver bludgeoned him to death with 20-inch metal bar in the showers of the prison gym, and Dahmer didn’t even resist. He wanted to be chastised for what he had done, and he had enough of the life that he had disgraced so many times. Carver was schizophrenic and believed that god had ordered him to kill Dahmer.
And that’s exactly what he did.
Jeffrey’s last words were: “I don’t care if I live or die. Go ahead and kill me.”
The perpetrator was crazy, just like Dahmer. But Jeffrey was peaceful —
And Carver was not.
