That November, Skylar Deleon contacted the Hawks to buy their yacht. On the morning of November 15th, 2004, the Hawks took Skylar and his wife Jennifer DeLeon for a test run on the yacht.
Skylar brought with him two “associates”, Alonso Machain, a correctional officer, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy, an ex con and youth pastor.
Once the boat was sailing, the three men attacked the Hawks and beat them. They then forced Tom to sign the yacht over to Skylar.
Afterwards, they tied the couple to the boat’s anchor and threw them overboard to drown. Their bodies were never found.
Machain was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the heinous crime. Jennifer Deleon was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Kennedy was sentenced to death for his part in the murder of Thomas and Jackie Hawks.
Skylar Deleon was sentenced to die by lethal injection. However, because of California’s moratorium on the death penalty, the ringleader in the deaths of Tom and Jackie will live out his days on Death Row.
