Really, just stupidly tall.

This is footballer David Beckham, at 6ft he’s a reasonably tall guy by most standards.

Here is David with Basketball player Dwight Howard (7ft):

Think Dwight is pretty tall? Sure, for regular people I guess, but for a basketball player not so much. Here he is being made to look like the kid brother of a group of other players:

This is the thing with basketball players, you don’t get a good idea of relative size as so many of them are huge. Looking at that picture in isolation, you don’t get a good impression of how huge Yao Ming on the left is until you learn that the guy in the middle is 7ft, and it’s not until you put them in context with normal people that it becomes clear.

Most people think of The Rock as a pretty big dude, but next to Shaq he looks tiny, and Shaq himself looks downright normal next to Ming.

Same with Arnold Schwarzenegger, by most people’s estimates a big guy, but put him next to Wilt Chamberlain?

These guys are by definition not normal, they become basketball superstars in part because of how ridiculously above the norm they are in terms of height.
