“Found in Florida! This morning, Judi, one of the hotel owners, was walking on the beach picking up trash when she found a bottle with a message inside. Inside the bottle was some sand and two one-dollar bills. When we opened the bottle and read the note, we discovered that the sand wasn’t just sand—it was the ashes of a woman’s husband, Gordon, who passed away.
She wrote that Gordon loved to travel, so she sent him on one last trip in a bottle with a note and money for someone to call her and let her know where he ended up. The journey started in Big Pine Key in March 2012, then went to Islamorada, where someone found the bottle, added a note, and sent him off again. Finally, the bottle landed on our beach in Key Colony.
Judi called the wife in Tennessee, and she was so happy to hear about Gordon’s travels! Judi added her own note, and we placed Gordon’s ashes in a rum bottle (just for fun) along with the three notes. We added another dollar in case Gordon travels far, and a long-distance call is needed. Later today, we’ll have a memorial service or a celebration of Gordon’s life on the beach before sending him off on his next journey.”
