Before she signed on to work on the set of ‘Rust’ Hannah Gutierrez-Reed worked on the set of a Nicolas Cage movie called ‘The Old Way’ and the red signs were already there.
On the set of that movie she gave an unchecked weapon to an 11-year-old actress called Ryan Armstrong, making the crew have to intervene:
She was reloading the gun on the ground, where there were pebbles and stuff. We didn’t see her check it, we didn’t know if something got in the barrel or not.
And now, Sharon Waxman who also worked on that set told The Wrap that while Hannah was checking weapons she would shoot the weapons into the air around the crew and actors without giving any warning, which angered Nicolas Cage, who had to scream at her:
‘Make an announcement, you just blew my f***ing eardrums out!’ Then, he stormed off.
He then went to the producers and told them she had to go. One of the producers of that movie is denying this ever happened and is saying people are blowing her behaviour out of proportion.
