When George Peppard was cast in his most iconic role in The A – Team, it was allegedly his last chance to maintain an acting job. The word in Hollywood, was that Peppard’s reputation had long begun to precede him. Whether that particular reputation was justified, is another matter.
As far as enjoying the show is concerned, I reckon George Peppard was secretly relieved that he still had an acting career.
Apparently, he and Mr. T did not get along at all. Different reasons have been given for this: that Mr. T received more fan mail and that he was being paid more. Financially-speaking, I believe George Peppard made a comfortable income from The A – Team – although that would have paled in comparison with what he made during the height of his film career. Speaking of which, the days of acting on the big screen were largely over for Peppard. When the show was cancelled, he was once quoted as saying he was glad about that because the filming schedule was gruelling.
What a character “Hannibal” Smith was and what a show! I hope my answer is of some help to you.
