Burt Reynolds and Frank Sinatra were good friends. They spent a lot of time together, especially when Reynolds was dating Dinah Shore (1971-1975), who was also friends with Sinatra.
Reynolds was also close to Sammy Davis, Jr. The three of them appeared together in the movie Cannonball Run II (1984).
Burt Reynolds shared, “He was always a gentleman around Dinah. And he would say, in a bit of a joking, serious way, ‘I assume you know what a great woman you have there.'”
Reynolds also said, “He was a loyal friend, always caring, and a great host. He had so many people over that people started calling him ‘the innkeeper.’ When he hosted a party, he would constantly refill your drink or pile food on your plate. He also gave expensive gifts for no reason and would ask, ‘What can I do for you?’ and he truly meant it.”
Burt also remembered, “Frank was very serious about his music. I watched him record ‘You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To.’ When he walked into the studio, he lit a cigarette, poured a drink, and nodded to the orchestra.
“They did a run-through, and Frank said, ‘The oboe’s off.’ The oboe player made an adjustment, and they tried the song again. They must have done it a dozen times before he was happy with it. He was in total control and knew exactly what he wanted.”
