by someone- I was operating on an emergency patient with a tubal pregnancy; It was a patient who had been sent from the hospital and was unable to pay.
I was assisted by a local general surgeon. The patient had already lost a tube due to a tubal pregnancy, but this was not broken, so I tried to save the tube by opening it and removing the pregnancy. Then I would simply sew the edges to stop the bleeding, but not to close the incision.
As I was doing this somewhat delicate surgery, my assistant said to me, “You know he won’t pay you anything. I don’t understand why you’re putting so much effort into it.” I was speechless, which is probably good.
When I take care of a patient, I give him the best of me, regardless of any payment prospect.
We finished the surgery and I never entrusted him with another patient, nor did I use him as an assistant. Yes, the patient I saw once after surgery and who was fine never paid a single penny. I deleted the entire account.
