Today, when I went to pick up my daughter from daycare, her teacher called me aside and said she wanted to talk to me.
“Shefali, there’s something I’d like to tell you about your daughter,” she began.
For a moment, my heart skipped a beat. I thought, Oh no, maybe she’s done something naughty or got into trouble.
Curious and a bit nervous, I asked, “What happened? What did she do?”
The teacher smiled and said, “Today, there were four or five children who were crying, saying they wanted to go home. And do you know what your daughter did?”
I shook my head, waiting to hear.
The teacher continued, “She went up to each of the crying children and said, ‘Don’t cry. The teacher won’t do anything. Do you want toys? Would you like to play?’ She even hugged them and wiped their tears. She helped me so much today. She’s such a sweet, caring girl.”
For a moment, I couldn’t say anything. I was touched and filled with pride. I just smiled and felt my heart melt.
All day after that, I couldn’t stop smiling. Knowing that my little girl was so kind and comforting to others filled me with more happiness than words could ever express.
