John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston had three beautiful children together, two sons and one daughter. Their eldest son, Jett Travolta, was born in 1992. For the first years he seemed alright. Later, it was discovered he suffered from increasingly bad epilepsy that would often result in major seizures.
Travolta and his wife wanted to give their son medical treatments, but the Church of Scientology they were a part of forbids its members such treatments. They are told, instead, to pretty much “pray the disease away” and hope for the best, while wonky machines were used instead to “rid young Jett’s body of evil thetans”.
For quite a few years, things went well enough. Then in January 2009, disaster struck. Jett Travolta suffered an epileptic attack while having a shower. He slipped, fell down and hit his head on the wet tiles.
Now of course when your teenaged son is having a shower, the last thing you do is get worried when he doesn’t come out for a while. By the time the Travolta’s finally did check on him, there was nothing that could be done. Jett was dead. He was sixteen years old.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston lost their son because their faith told them to distrust doctors and modern medicine. In 2020, Preston herself died of cancer. She, too, did not get treatment.
