Why did a US fighter jet fall off an aircraft carrier that was making evasive maneuvers in the Red Sea?

According to the USNI ( which is a military news source) the USS Truman was making what they vaguely referred to as “evasive maneuvers because of Houthi attacks”. This is military speak for “We’re under attack, so we’re moving like Hell to get the Freak away!” Note how steep the deck is. Even seasoned sailors would have trouble standing upright, much less dealing with the sharp turn.

Unfortunately, when this happens, the crew doesn’t much time to be ready. On this particular occasion, a team of sailors who was in the process of moving an F/A-18 to a flight elevator, got caught unawares and lost control of it. It was a case of bad timing.

As you can see – once something that big gets rolling, there’s really nothing there to stop it. And it took the tow tractor with it. Truth be told, I’m surprised incidents like this haven’t happened more often. Working on these bird farms is dangerous. The people who work there – they’re damn good.
