Some people aren’t used to facing consequences.
Elizabeth Holmes is a pretty white woman from a rich family. Her dad was a vice president at Enron and has a number after his name, and her mom was a Congressional staffer. She grew up with a lot of money, without anyone there to tell her “no”, and until her arrest has probably never faced real consequences in her life.
Hell, her dad helped commit massive fraud, arguably worse fraud than Theranos did, and he got away scott free.
Holmes thought she could get away with anything because her entire life she, her family, and her social circle had been getting away with everything. In all likelihood had she not defrauded so many people who were richer and better connected than she was, she’d probably be a free woman today.
