When people have a heart attack, do they actually realise they are having a heart attack at the time?

This is FayeGreenWoody. She’s an influencer who had a heart attack on holiday in Paris.

The ambulance crew thought she was drunk and left her in the emergency room on her own.

After hours of waiting in excruciating pain, she couldn’t take it anymore and went home, thinking it was probably nothing serious, and she was being dramatic.

Hours later, she woke up vomiting blood and was rushed straight to the hospital.

Since then, she’s had a heart transplant, spent months in hospital and is now finally discharged and on the road to recovery.

Her story of trying to sleep off the pain is a one-off.

People having a heart attack often think it couldn’t happen to them, and that the pain will go away with time.

Some people present with atypical heart attack symptoms, or sometimes even none at all.

While many people know they’re having a heart attack and come in straight away, it’s not uncommon for people to seek medical help hours or even days later.
