Gene Hackman, The American actor, left his entire estate to Betsy Arakawa — his wife of 30 years.
Arakawa was not the mother of Hackman’s children, though, and Hackman has repeatedly stated in the past that he had become estranged from his children over the years, mostly due to his own pursuit of a successful acting career (ego is as ego does).
Maybe that’s why he did not leave them a dime, maybe not.
But in any case, both Hackman and Arakawa were infamously found dead in their New Mexico home in February 2025. Autopsy revealed even more drama than anyone had ever expected prior to the macabre discovery 😲
Betsy Arakawa died on February 11 from HPS (Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome) which she must have caught somehow through an exposure to rodent droppings!!!!!!!
The readings of Gene Hackman’s pacemaker showed that he died almost a full week later, on February 17 or February 18.
Gene unfortunately also suffered from late stage Alzheimer’s, and he could not take care of himself anymore at all. And so for a full week, he wandered around in his house searching and calling for Betsy because he was hungry and thirsty, because he needed to do No. 1 or No. 2 — because he was so lonely and afraid. 😢
He might have stumbled on her decomposing body once or twice, talked to her body while not understanding why she didn’t respond, and then forgot all about her and continued his quest to find his wife. (Imagine the stench and the blow flies. Imagine the dystopian void in which Gene was falling. Imagine his primal screams. Imagine.)
And if that isn’t enough, this very drama has a second tail.
You see, Betsy died first, and so she didn’t inherit his estate at all — Gene actually inherited Betsy’s estate. And legal experts say that subsequently Hackman’s children most probably will inherit his fortune despite not being named in his will.
There’s always a silver lining behind a cloud, I guess —
Even if it’s a cloud of maggots.
