Twenty-four-year-old Angel Rojas was working alone at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas when a large concrete burial vault fell over and pinned him from the waist down.
In his final moments, he was able to call his wife.
“He told me he loved me,” said Natalie Rojas. “He told me he wanted to go home.”
Rescue teams worked for more than 45 minutes using special tools to free him, but Angel later died at the hospital. He had taken the job to support his wife and their 3-year-old son, Angel Noel, who will turn four next month.
His family says he should never have been working alone or handling such heavy equipment by himself. Their lawyer is calling the situation “gross negligence.”
Restland Funeral Home has not made any public statement.
The investigation is still ongoing.
