Lexi Baskin shares a powerful message about empathy and kindness after experiencing an upsetting encounter related to her parking in a handicap space. She explains that although she looks physically fine when walking from her car, she is battling a serious medical condition that most people cannot see.
Lexi describes her diagnosis: a grade 2 ependymoma, a tumor located on her brain stem. She underwent major brain surgery to remove it on July 28, and later began an intense round of radiation treatments. At the time of her post, she had been going through radiation for more than five weeks, with only about a week and a half left.
While her most recent scan came back with good results, she still suffers from invisible side effects—fatigue, healing, and a lingering speech difficulty that is slowly improving. Despite these challenges, she emphasizes how exhausting radiation and recovery can be, even if someone appears outwardly “okay.”
Her encounter happened when someone judged her for parking in a handicap space, assuming she didn’t need it. Lexi clarifies that she is legally allowed to use handicap parking because her condition leaves her extremely fatigued and vulnerable.
Instead of responding with anger, Lexi chooses love and compassion. She hopes that the person who confronted her—and others who judge too quickly—will understand that not all disabilities are visible.
