On Wednesday, July 24, 1996, seven-year-old Morgan Violi was spending a hot summer day with her friend, six-year-old Destiny Miller, near their apartment complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The girls were outside playing and walking through the parking lot, enjoying their summer break like any other children their age.
Suddenly, a burgundy van pulled up beside them. Destiny stopped in fear as the driver, a man neither of them recognized, jumped out of the vehicle. His target was Destiny—he tried to grab her first.
