On Wednesday, July 24, 1996, seven-year-old Morgan Violi was spending a hot summer day with her friend, six-year-old Destiny Miller, near their apartment complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The girls were outside playing and walking through the parking lot, enjoying their summer break like any other children their age.
Suddenly, a burgundy van pulled up beside them. Destiny stopped in fear as the driver, a man neither of them recognized, jumped out of the vehicle. His target was Destiny—he tried to grab her first. Destiny managed to pull away from his grip and run, but when she looked back, she saw something far worse:
The man had grabbed Morgan instead.
Before Destiny or anyone else could react, he forced Morgan into the van’s passenger seat, climbed over her into the driver’s seat, and sped out of the parking lot.
Several witnesses saw the kidnapping, yet the man escaped before anyone could stop him.
The Discovery of Morgan’s Remains
Nearly three months later, on October 20, 1996, a woman walking across her property in Robertson County, Tennessee—about an hour away—found something horrifying. Lying in a wooded area were skeletal remains that were later confirmed to belong to Morgan Violi.
Her family finally had an answer to Morgan’s disappearance, but it was the answer they had feared most.
The Case Today
Despite witnesses, the description of the van, and the timeline of events, the kidnapper and killer have never been identified or caught. Morgan’s case remains unsolved, and her family still waits for justice.
