No one expected it, but my grandmother’s birth turned out to be one of those surprising cases.
She was born in 1938, and since she was her mother’s first pregnancy, no one really knew what to look for. Her family simply assumed her mother had gained some weight and told her to take better care of herself.
But when the day finally came, everyone was shocked — she gave birth to two baby girls. Twins. As many people know, twins are often born early and are usually much smaller than single babies, and that was true for them as well.
The nurses washed the babies, wrapped them in blankets, and handed them to their mother. The doctor didn’t have much hope. He told her to take them home and enjoy whatever time they had together, because he didn’t believe they would survive for long.
But the twins proved everyone wrong. They grew up, lived full lives, and reached about 55 years old. Sadly, they passed away just a few weeks apart, each from different causes.
