About a week ago, my mom was out of town, so my dad and I decided to eat out since neither of us is exactly a great cook. We went to a restaurant, and I ordered a Masala dosa. While waiting, we spent about twenty minutes on a video call with my mom. By the time the call ended, the food had finally arrived.
I had barely taken two bites when I noticed something really unpleasant—a strand of hair floating in the Sambhar. I felt disgusted. I showed it to my dad and was just about to call the waiter to replace the dish when my dad came up with a surprisingly clever idea.
He said, “Before calling the waiter, add a lot of salt to the Sambhar. That way they’ll have to give you a completely new bowl instead of just removing the hair.”
Honestly, I couldn’t believe how genius that sounded. So I added extra salt, and then we called the waiter. My dad looked almost excited, waiting to see if his plan would work.
After a few minutes, the waiter came back with a new bowl of Sambhar—only this time, it was even saltier than before! My dad’s trick had worked perfectly. He grinned like a little kid, clearly proud of himself. I was amazed at how smart (and funny) the whole idea was.
Later, we actually told the waiter the whole story. He got a bit defensive, but it didn’t really matter. What mattered was the life hack my dad had just taught me.
It’s a memory I won’t forget—and here’s a picture of my awesome dad (or at least the one you meant to share!).
