Today, I was sitting in the hospital waiting room when a young woman came in carrying her baby. The little one was fast asleep in her arms.
She walked up to the reception desk, and the nurse handed her some forms to fill out. The poor mother looked around, clearly trying to figure out how she was going to manage holding her sleeping baby while writing at the same time.
As she hesitated, a man who had been sitting across the room watching quietly spoke up.
He said with a gentle smile, “Ma’am, would you like me to hold your baby for a few minutes while you fill those out?”
The woman looked at him, a bit surprised at first, then smiled back and said, “Oh, that would be wonderful, thank you so much.”
The man stood up and walked over. He carefully took the baby into his arms, supporting the little head just right, and began to rock him softly. You could tell immediately—he had done this before. He held that baby like he was his own child.
The baby didn’t even stir, just slept peacefully as the man smiled down at him. The mother quickly finished her paperwork, glancing up every now and then, smiling gratefully.
Everyone in the waiting room was watching quietly, and I swear you could feel everyone’s heart melting.
When she was done, the mom thanked the man again, and he just smiled and said, “No problem at all. I miss when mine were that small.”
Such a simple act of kindness—but one that spoke volumes.
If anyone knows who that man was, tell him he’s an amazing person. The world needs more people like him. ❤️
