This afternoon, I experienced one of the most terrifying moments of my life. When my subway train stopped at Broadview station, I suddenly heard a faint, desperate voice calling out, “Help, help me, please.” The sound didn’t seem to come from anyone inside the train car, so I stood up and looked out onto the platform to see what was happening.
To my shock, I saw a man lying on the subway tracks. He was blind and had accidentally fallen, injuring himself in the process. Before I could even react, the man standing next to me — the one in the photo wearing the animal-print shirt — jumped down onto the tracks without hesitation to help him.
Within seconds, two other men also rushed forward to assist. Together, they worked quickly and bravely to lift the injured man back onto the platform to safety. Thankfully, everything turned out okay, but it could have ended very differently if not for their quick thinking and courage.
These men are true heroes. In a moment of danger, when every second mattered, they didn’t stop to think about themselves — they just acted. I hope this photo is shared widely so that their bravery and compassion can be recognized and celebrated.
