This is Foster Care

In March 2020, our lives changed forever when we brought home a tiny, beautiful baby boy—a preemie who had just spent a month in the NICU. From the moment we held him, we loved him deeply. We cared for him, nurtured him, and gave him everything he needed to grow and thrive. This—this is what foster care is all about: opening your heart fully, even when you know it might one day break.

As time went on, we learned that little Peanut (as we lovingly called him) had a family who wanted to bring him home and love him as their own. Instead of fear or sadness, we chose love and cooperation. We worked closely with his family—sharing every detail about his medical needs, daily routines, and progress. We stayed in touch through messages and calls, slowly building a beautiful friendship rooted in one shared goal: Peanut’s happiness and well-being.

At the end of January 2021, the time came to transition Peanut to his new home. It was bittersweet—our hearts ached to say goodbye, yet we were filled with hope knowing he was going to a family who loved him dearly. We didn’t know what the future would hold, but his family continued to surprise us with kindness. They sent us pictures, updates, and little notes about his milestones. They didn’t have to do any of this—but they did, and for that, we are endlessly grateful.

Then, on February 4, 2022, Peanut officially found permanency. His family invited us to be there to celebrate this incredible milestone, and standing beside them, watching him surrounded by love, was one of the most beautiful moments of our lives.

This is foster care.
It’s not just about caring for a child—it’s about building bridges, showing compassion, and believing in brighter tomorrows even when the days feel hard. Sometimes, in the middle of heartbreak, it’s easy to forget that these stories often end in hope, love, and family.

So today, let’s all celebrate Peanut—his journey, his growth, and the loving family that’s now his forever. 💛
