I was in the house with my baby

I was in the house with my baby, watching out the window as my 5-year-old waited for the bus. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a big, black, wolf-like dog showed up at the bus stop.

I quickly threw on my boots and ran down the street, yelling to get the dog’s attention. It looked scary and was very skinny. But as soon as I got closer and saw its tail wagging, I realized it wasn’t mean—just hungry and thirsty.

The dog had no collar or tags, so I called the animal shelter to report that I had found it. I told them I would keep it until the owner came forward.

The next day, someone reported the dog missing. Since we live in a neighborhood where dogs don’t usually go missing, I was curious about the situation.

When I brought the dog to the owner’s house, the woman didn’t even seem happy to see her. She barely cared that the dog had been gone for days! When I asked about the dog’s health, she complained that Mocha was a “pain” and always ran away. Then she said they hated her.

I couldn’t believe it. I turned around and walked out of the driveway—with Mocha by my side.

That was 10 years ago, and she has never run away from me! She loves us, and we love her. She is the best dog our family could have ever adopted. Now, at 13 years old, our vet says she still has plenty of years ahead. We are so happy we got to rescue her!
