A few months ago, my neighbor bought a brand new car.

With the new car, their whole family went on a long road trip from Chennai to South Tamil Nadu.

They stayed at their destination for a couple of days, and then started driving back to Chennai. But just a few minutes after getting onto the highway, a big tree branch suddenly fell on the car’s bonnet.

The front of the car was badly damaged. All the windows and the windshield were broken.

Thankfully, the entire family—including their two kids—was completely safe. Not even a small scratch.

The car ended up looking something like this:

It was a new car, but now it was badly wrecked. When I heard what happened, I immediately thought, “This car is unlucky for them.”

But since the car was fully insured, the company offered to give them a brand new one. I thought for sure my neighbor would accept and return the damaged one.

But instead, my neighbor said something that really surprised me:
“Why do you say the car is unlucky? I think it’s lucky. It took the hit and protected us. We’re all alive today because of this car. I don’t want a new one. Just get this one fixed.”

I was really moved by that positive way of thinking.
