A Mother’s Journey of Courage and Hope

0

On June 27, my 11-year-old son was admitted to the hospital to begin chemotherapy and radiation in preparation for his bone marrow transplant. It was the beginning of one of the most difficult chapters of our lives — and yet, one filled with strength, miracles, and love.

Originally, his older sister was going to be his bone marrow donor. We had prepared ourselves for that plan, but at the very last minute, everything changed. The doctors told us that they would need to use me as his donor instead. Without hesitation, I said yes — because a mother will do anything to give her child a chance at life.

My boy has been through so much. He is brave, strong, and full of light. He faced every test, every treatment, and every long night in that hospital with courage that amazed everyone around him.

What makes his story even more incredible is that he is only the 7th person in the world to be diagnosed with a newly discovered and extremely rare genetic mutation. When we first got the news, the doctors told me that out of the other six known cases, two children had already passed away, and one was in the ICU fighting for their life. Hearing those words shattered my heart, but we didn’t give up. His medical team immediately scheduled the transplant to give him the best possible chance to survive.

And then, a miracle began to unfold.

Today marks Day +31 from his “rebirth day” — the day of his bone marrow transplant, when he was given a new chance at life. Each day since then, he’s been getting stronger, little by little. The road ahead is still long, but we are walking it with gratitude and hope.

Today, I get to bring him home. 💕
He’s been counting down the days, so excited to finally hug his sisters again and cuddle with his beloved kitties.

There are no words big enough to express my gratitude to the incredible doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who have cared for my son with such skill, compassion, and dedication. They have not only treated him but have also held us up through every hard moment.

My son is a living miracle — a symbol of resilience, faith, and love.
We still have challenges ahead, but today, we celebrate life. 💖
