Today, I used Lyft for the very first time. My plan was simple β just a quick ride to the dealership to pick up my car. But halfway through that trip, something unexpected happened β something that would remind me how powerful compassion can be.
As we were driving, my driverβs phone rang through his carβs speaker. A serious voice on the other end said something about repossessing his car.
The driver instantly took the call off speaker, his tone changing. I could feel the tension in his voice as he said, βPlease, I just need two more weeks.β
My heart sank.
Iβve been in that place before β when youβre doing your best, but life keeps throwing you curveballs. When it feels like no matter how hard you try, you just canβt catch a break.
I asked him a few gentle questions, and as he shared a little bit about his situation, I realized how much he was struggling to stay afloat.
Right then, without overthinking, I called his bank myself and paid what he owed β enough to bring his account up to date and stop the repossession.
When I told him what Iβd done, he just stared at me in disbelief. Then, tears filled his eyes β and before I knew it, I was crying too.
He hadnβt asked me for a thing. He was just out there working, trying to make ends meet.
I didnβt do it for attention. I did it because Iβve been there β and I know how it feels when you just need a little grace.
Before I got out of the car, I told him:
βSome of the best people, including me, have been right where you are. Keep going β better days are coming.β
That moment reminded me of something beautiful: itβs a blessing to be in a position to bless someone else. πππ½
Sometimes God places you exactly where someone needs a little bit of hope β and today, I was grateful to be that person.
