A Stranger’s Kindness – A True Story from North Augusta

0

Last night, my son Jordan came into my room and said,
“Mom, let me tell you what happened to me today!”

He began,
“I was at Walmart, getting ready to leave, when my car battery suddenly died. I went back into the store and bought some jumper cables, hoping I could find someone to help me get the car started.”

“When I got back to the parking lot, there was a man in a white truck parked next to me. I asked if he could give me a jump. He looked at me for a moment and said, ‘What you really need is a new battery.’

“I told him I couldn’t afford a new battery right now because I had a $400 insurance bill due that very day. He asked if I was a single parent because I had the baby with me, and I told him, ‘No, her mom is at work.’

“The man said, ‘Pull around to the auto department.’ So I did, thinking he was going to have them charge my battery for a bit. But the Walmart Auto Center was really busy, and they told us it would be a while.”

“That’s when the man said, ‘Follow me to AutoZone.’

“I followed him there, not really knowing what he was planning to do. When we got to AutoZone, he went inside, talked to one of the employees, then came back out to me and said, ‘Someone will be out in a few minutes.’

“Before I could even thank him or ask what he’d done, he shook my hand, smiled, and drove off.”

“A few minutes later, an AutoZone worker came outside with a brand-new car battery and said they were going to install it for me—completely paid for.

Jordan said, with tears in his eyes,
“Mom, I didn’t even get the man’s name.”

To the kind gentleman driving the white truck in North Augusta yesterday, who helped my son and granddaughter —
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💖
