From a Grandma, with Love

Maybe today’s young people don’t realize what life was really like when we were your age.

We didn’t have smartphones, internet, or even color TV for most of our youth — and yet, somehow, the world felt brighter.

We used to wear miniskirts so short they’d scandalize some people even today. Tight jeans, tall leather boots, and sometimes — yes — we went out without bras. It wasn’t about rebellion for the sake of it; it was about freedom. We were discovering what it meant to be women on our own terms.

Our music wasn’t just background noise — it was our heartbeat. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin — they weren’t just artists; they were revolutionaries. When Hendrix played his guitar, it felt like he was setting the world on fire. When Janis screamed into the mic, we screamed along — for love, for pain, for life itself.

We’d pile into old Mini Coopers, roll down the windows, and hit the open road. Sometimes, we rode motorcycles — hair flying in the wind, hearts racing with the thrill of being alive. Our nights were filled with gin & tonics, whiskey, tequila, and laughter that could shake the walls.

And the festivals — oh, the festivals! We’d walk barefoot through mud, arms around strangers, and dance like nobody was watching. Because nobody was watching. There were no cameras, no videos, no followers to impress. Just the music, the sky, and the wild joy of existing.

We didn’t scroll through lives on screens — we lived them. We didn’t care about likes or filters — we cared about moments. Life felt endless, raw, real.

So the next time you look at your grandma and see a quiet old woman with soft hands and silver hair, remember this:

Once, she was the girl dancing barefoot under the stars.
She was the one shouting along to “Hey Jude” with a heart full of dreams.
She was fearless, wild, and impossibly cool.

You’ll never be as cool as your grandma once was.
Someone had to tell you.

From a Grandma, with love.
