โThe day of miracles hasnโt ended. They just come in ways we might not expect.โ
Christie Sundberg Hailes learned this truth through one of the most sacred and heart-changing experiences of her life โ bringing her conjoined twin boys, Ian and Aiden, into the world.
๐ธ An Unexpected Journey
In 2014, Christie and her husband Brian were thrilled to learn they were expecting twins.
But when Christie was just 10 weeks pregnant, the doctors gave them heartbreaking news โ their babies were conjoined twins, physically joined together.
Fear and uncertainty filled their hearts.
โWould our babies survive? How would we handle this?โ Christie wondered.
One sleepless night, filled with tears and worry, she got down on her knees and prayed:
โDear Lord, I need a miracle. I donโt know what it will look like, but I need Your help.โ
That night, she fell asleep crying.
๐ A Miracle of the Heart
The next morning, something changed.
Not their situation โ the boys were still conjoined โ but their hearts were different.
The prayers and fasting offered by family, friends, and neighbors brought a deep sense of peace.
Christie and Brian suddenly knew that whatever happened, the Lord would help them.
They felt the Savior was near, guiding and comforting them through it all.
๐ถ Weeks of Faith and Hope
Every two weeks, Christie went in for ultrasounds.
Doctors discovered that the boysโ lungs were not developing properly โ a serious condition that meant they would not survive long after birth.
Even so, Christie and Brian cherished every moment of the pregnancy, holding on to hope and faith.
Finally, at 26 weeks, doctors decided to deliver the twins via C-section.
๐ Eighty Precious Minutes
When Ian and Aiden were born, the room filled with a sacred feeling.
Though fragile, they lived for 80 precious minutes โ 80 minutes that would change their parentsโ lives forever.
During that time, Christie and Brian held them close, gave them names and blessings, and felt as though angels surrounded them.
Christie later said,
โIt felt like the veil between heaven and earth was very thin that day.โ
๐ Bound by Love โ Forever
Before the birth, three different doctors had asked the couple if they wanted to end the pregnancy.
But for Christie and Brian, that was never an option.
โThey were our babies,โ Christie said. โWe would do everything we could for them.โ
Though their time on earth was short, Ian and Aidenโs impact was eternal.
Their tiny lives brought great love, faith, and unity to everyone who knew them.
On their gravestone are the words:
โIn life they were not divided, and in death, they were not separated.โ
๐ Families Can Be Together Forever
Christie and Brian find comfort in knowing that their sons live on โ two angels waiting for them in heaven.
They believe deeply in the promise that families can be together forever.
Christie shares,
โWe look forward to the day weโll see them again. Knowing that gives us peace and strength every single day.โ
